The bey
Knight Mail is a right-spin Defense Type bey from the Unique Line, the UX sub-series launched inside the Customize Set U. It carries product code UX-10 and fits a lineage pulled straight from Knight Lance: it's the direct successor to KnightLance 4-80HN, and it hands the baton to the later KnightFortress GV8-70UN.
Like every Unique Line model, Knight Mail swaps the usual metal launcher hook for a resin one. That single change pushes more of the bey's weight toward the outside, which helps stamina and attack potential. On paper, that's a real design cheat. The blade itself is a compact, round piece with bumps running along its rim — a shape that reads as built to absorb contact rather than deliver it.
There's also a built-in gimmick. Three internal metal balls sit inside the blade and shift the vertical weight distribution on impact, working to pull the bey back upright after a hit that would topple a less forgiving piece. The intent is clear. Knight Mail wants to stay planted when something slams it from overhead.
In the anime, Knight Mail belongs to Multi Nana-Iro. If you want to hunt down a second copy, there's also a limited Metal Coat Navy version sold as UX-00 through the Rare Bey Get Battle.
Stock build
The stock combo is Knight Mail on the 3-85 Ratchet with the Bound Spike bit. Roughly 43.5 grams when fully assembled.
Stock Knight Mail is the definition of a show model. It's tall, thanks to 3-85 being one of the tallest Ratchets around, and that height makes for a shaky center of gravity. 3-85 also has weak burst resistance, so one strong hit from the wrong angle can pop it apart. Then there's Bound Spike, a retractable bit that cushions overhead attacks by sinking into the Ratchet during a hit, but its sudden accelerations and re-extensions drain stamina fast. The tall profile also gives knock-out attackers an easy target.
The short version: the stock build is hard to use. It's a poster piece, not a tournament staple. Almost nobody leaves it as-is.
How it plays
Play it stock and you will feel every weakness at once. The bey is top-heavy and reactively bouncy, so it eats its own spin while it rattles around after impacts. Against anything that hits hard, burst and knock-out are real risks.
The design's actual strengths only come out when you fix those parts. Take Knight Mail's blade, spin it low, and it turns into the elusive thing its gimmick promised: a bey that absorbs overhead shocks and stays put. Used this way, it shines as a defensive wall and a counter-attack piece, letting aggressors tire themselves out before you answer.
It showed up in that role at the Beyblade X World Championship, run on either 3-60 or 9-60 with a Wedge bit. That's the blueprint.
Combos & variants
The first move for most players is to replace 3-85 with a safer Ratchet, usually 9-60. That single swap fixes most of the stability problems.
Wedge is the go-to for predictable Defense behavior, and it's what the World Championship field favored. Hexa gives a Defense/Stamina blend with better burst resistance. For a counter-attack build, Kick pairs well with a 7-60 Ratchet. On the offensive side, Rush, Low Rush, or Level on a 1-60 or 3-60 Ratchet turns Knight Mail into a surprisingly quick attacker, and those two Ratchets are widely regarded as its most tournament-successful mounts. Finally, if you want a conservative stamina build, run 9-60 with Ball or Free Ball and let it outspin the field.
Whatever you do with it, the takeaway is always the same: get it off the stock 3-85.
Where to get one
In Japan, Knight Mail 3-85BS is part of the UX-10 Customize Set U, released November 2nd, 2024 at around 5,700 yen. It's a whole box of parts, not a single bey: the set pairs Knight Mail with the Ptera Swing blade, metal-coat versions of Hells Hammer and Tyranno Beat, the 1-60 and 7-70 Ratchets, and Ball, Metal Needle, Point, Rubber Accel, and Rush Bits.
West of Japan, Hasbro sells the bey as Mail Knight 3-85BS inside its X-treme Expansion Pack, at an approximate price of $29.99 USD.
