Every Beyblade X line needs a dependable wall, and the Knight family supplies it. Knight Lance 4-80HN is the second Knight release to hit the Xtreme Gear Sports system, and it does exactly what the name promises: it stands in front of the attack types and refuses to move.
The bey
Knight Lance drops into the series as BX-13, a Booster that Takara Tomy shipped in Japan on August 10th, 2023. It's the direct successor to Knight Shield 3-80N, trading the rounded, patient shield for a leaner, three-sided blade with aggressive tapered edges. Where the Shield absorbed hits, the Lance hits back.
The blade is a proper counter piece. Its high-profile design is meant to nullify incoming attacks and turn them around — a "counter defense" style that rewards the blader who reads the match instead of just smashing forward. In the anime it's wielded by Multi Nanairo, which suits a bey that thinks before it acts.
Stock build
The stock combo pairs the Knight Lance blade with the 4-80 ratchet and the High Needle bit.
The 4-80 ratchet gives the setup four protrusions at an 8.0-millimeter height, which puts the whole bey up high and leans into that tall, counter-friendly profile. High Needle, meanwhile, is a cone-shaped bit with a real stamina advantage over the older Needle — it stays upright and spin-hungry longer, the backbone of any good defense type. The whole assembled bey weighs in around 41.8 grams.
That high stance is the trade-off. The tall build plus the four-sided ratchet means burst resistance is on the thin side, and the low-friction High Needle can tilt and get knocked out if it over-commits.
How it plays
Knight Lance plays the waiting game. On defense, it has solid knock-out resistance — a well-timed counter hit can send an attack type skidding into the pocket. On stamina, High Needle carries it into late-game out-spins against attackers that burn themselves out.
What it lacks is consistency. The blade recoils on contact, and that same recoil can backfire, leaving you open to bursts or a lucky smack from a stamina build. It's versatile rather than specialized: it beats attack types on endurance and can surprise stamina builds with a counter worthwhile hit, but it isn't a guaranteed lock against any single archetype.
Combos & variants
Takara Tomy's own suggested tweak fixes the stock combo's weak spots. Swap the tall 4-80 ratchet for the lower 3-60, and push High Needle out for a Ball bit — the result, Knight Lance 3-60B, is a lower, semi-mobile build that gets more out of the blade's attributes and patches most of the burst-resistance trouble. It's a popular competitive setup.
The blade itself shines in balance-style combos too, pairing with Taper or Point bits when you want a little more offense mixed into the defense.
