The bey
Hells Scythe is the Balance Type of Beyblade X's launch wave, and it has aged exceptionally well. Where Dran Sword is all aggression, Hells Scythe is the "does a bit of everything well" bey — a heavy Blade with a smooth profile that can spin long when it needs to and still move with purpose. It's the sort of combo tournament players reach for when they want something dependable rather than flashy.
Stock build
HellsScythe / 4-60 / T (Taper)
- Blade: heavy and smooth, with a shape that gives it both strong stamina and enough attack presence to stay dangerous.
- Ratchet (4-60): four protrusions at a 6.0 mm height, with a stable mid-lock that keeps it steady under pressure.
- Bit T (Taper): a narrowed tip that sits between ball and flat — enough movement early for attack, enough of a footprint to hold stamina late.
The stock combo is widely regarded as one of the most versatile in the whole format, and it's a common sight in competitive decks.
How it plays
Hells Scythe plays a controlled, circular game, staying composed and moving steadily rather than careening around. The stable mid-lock and smooth Blade give it reliable endurance under pressure, and the Taper bit keeps it responsive enough to dodge and counter. Its only real trade-off is that it isn't the absolute best at any single job — a pure stamina build or a pure attacker can out-specialize it — but from day one it's been the bey you can trust in a tournament. That Taper bit has stayed relevant in the meta long after release.
Combos & variants
The versatile Blade works across roles — it's been run on stamina and attack builds as the format evolved, and the 4-60 ratchet is a solid all-rounder component. Swapping Taper for a harder-stamina bit shifts it toward a survivalist endurance meme, while more aggressive bits lean into its counter-attack side. Fans often cite the stock build itself as already near-best-in-class for its archetype.
Where to get one
Released as a Starter in Japan (July 15, 2023, ¥1980) with a string launcher, and later brought west by Hasbro. As part of the very first Beyblade X wave along with Dran Sword, it's easy to find and remains a strong first purchase for anyone getting into the generation.
