The bey
CobaltDrake is a legend with a supply problem. Released by Takara Tomy in Japan on September 14, 2023 as a Rare Bey Get Battle Prize Booster, it never got the normal retail Starter or Booster treatment. Instead, players claimed it through the Beyblade X companion app — which only worked in Japan. That single gate made it rare, in demand, and pricey on the secondary market from day one.
It also happens to be a love letter to the plastic generation. CobaltDrake belongs to the Team Pendragon line of Blades, which pays homage to the original Bakuten Shoot Beyblades. This one is a tribute to Dragoon. Its Gear Chip shows the side profile of the Blue Dragon (Seiryū), one of the Four Auspicious Beasts of Chinese mythology, and it carries the Bakuten Shoot logo. The name pulls the two halves together: "Cobalt" for the blue shade, and the drake for the dragon itself.
Stock build
CobaltDrake / 4-60 Ratchet / F (Flat) Bit — right-spin by default. The Blade is four-sided, with four upward-slanting blades as its main contact points; it reads like a smaller, tighter DranSword. It launched as the heaviest Blade in Beyblade X, averaging about 38 grams on its own (roughly 46 grams assembled), which put it a solid 3 grams over contemporary Attack Blades. The Flat bit gives it an aggressive, fast-moving tip that makes the Xtreme Line and Xtreme Dash gimmick easier to reach.
How it plays
For an Attack bey it's a bit of an overachiever. The four-sided shape and round silhouette deliver better-than-usual stamina, and it deflects opponents cleanly, which means it pulls double duty on Defense and Stamina combos too. It hits with decent Smash Attack and shove. The trade-offs: it's top-heavy, so its end-game stamina can give out and topple it, and the exposed shape punishes sloppy setups. Good, honest, dependable — just not meta-defining.
Combos & variants
Attack builds lean on Flat, Low Flat, Point, Taper, Rush, or Low Rush bits paired with 3-60, 5-60, 9-60, 7-60, or 1-60 ratchets. If you want more stamina, swap Flat for Taper; Rush trades a little speed for control; Ball turns the whole thing into a stamina-oriented combo. For Defense and Stamina work, reach for Needle, HighNeedle, Under Needle, or Hexa on 3-60, 5-60, 4-60, 9-60, or 7-60. In the anime, Chrome Ryugu of Team Pendragon is the one who wields it. It was later succeeded by CobaltDragoon 2-60C — the first left-spin Beyblade X release, July 13, 2024 — and ImpactDrake 9-60LR.
Where to get one
This is where it stings. Because CobaltDrake was a Japan-only app prize, there's no Starter or Booster on a shelf to pick up. The realistic route is the secondary market — auction sites and secondhand sellers — and it asks a premium, often with the paint already worn. That full-body paint was part of the 38 grams, and it abraded off fast in battle, leaving a signature blue residue in its wake. If you find one, expect to pay for the privilege and to spot it some wear. For a piece of Beyblade X history that doubles as a Dragoon tribute, collectors tend to decide it's worth it.
