Takara Tomy Is Rebuilding Its 2023 Launch Beys — and the Results Matter More Than You'd Think

October 05, 2026

Three years after Beyblade X exploded onto shelves, Takara Tomy is doing something a lot of toy companies would never bother with: it's going back to fix its own launch lineup.

The first proof landed in Japan this August. The Dran Sword Version 2.0 (code BX-00) dropped as a B4-store limited booster on the 8th, priced at 1,600 yen. If you missed the July 2023 starter that kicked the whole generation off — the BX-01 DranSword 3-60F — this is the same blade you loved, but rebuilt. DranSword was the game's very first Attack Type, and now it's coming back heavier, reinforced, and re-tuned.

Why would a company bother? Because weight is everything in Beyblade X. Early reports put the Version 2.0 blade at around 37.86 grams — Takara filled in the hollow areas of the original mold, which ran lighter. The difference doesn't sound huge on paper, but in the dish it's night and day. A heavier, denser blade has more momentum on impact, holds its spin against heavier hitters, and — just as importantly — a reinforced mold is a sturdier one. It's one less thing to fret about when a 40-gram attacker slams into you at full speed.

Here's the neat part: this isn't new news from the factory floor. Reinforced DranSword molds have shipped since January 2024, and those releases (including Hasbro's) already tipped past 35 grams. The Version 2.0 just makes the upgrade explicit — a clear, boxed, "yes, this is the good one" stamp of approval.

The program spreads wider than one Attack Type, too. The BX-53 All-in-One Set, arriving 10 October at 7,480 yen, bundles the Aero Pegasus 3-70A (a dual metallic-blue-and-aqua Attack type) alongside two more rebuilt original launch beys: the Wizard Arrow 4-80B Version 2.0 (Stamina) and Knight Shield 3-80N Version 2.0 (Defense). Both have been re-examined and adjusted for better performance while keeping their original type roles intact. Knight Shield's reinforced mold has averaged around 34.8 grams since January 2025 in clear-coat releases — a solid, dependable number for a Defense piece.

If you're ordering online, one buyer's warning before you hit checkout: a listing that just says "3-60F" may be the old mold or the new one. Don't assume. Look for the "Version 2.0" marking and the B4-store limited line before you commit.

And a tournament note: in formats that ban repeating a part, BX-01 and the Version 2.0 still share the same blade name — DranSword. You can't run both. Pick your favorite and build around it.

It's rare to see a company respectfully revisit its own launch lineup. For fans who've been here since day one, this is Takara Tomy saying the originals still deserve to compete. And honestly? They just might.
